Ismail Kurun - Bio

I am a Philosophy PhD candidate at Vanderbilt University. I specialize in social & political philosophy (including "PPE"), Islamic & medieval philosophy, the philosophy of AI, and ethics. I'm on the 2025/26 job market.

I'm also a fellow at several research institutes, including Vanderbilt's interdisciplinary AI lab (VALIANT), the Conceptual Foundations of Conflict Project at USC, and the Mercatus Center at GMU, among others.

My research has been published (or is forthcoming) in History of Philosophy Quarterly, Review of Metaphysics, and other venues. My dissertation, chaired by Robert Talisse, is on the epistemology of liberalism and the liberalization of nonliberal societies.
